During the Winter Olympics, a social media platform introduced hundreds of digital snowflake prints created by different artists. By completing specific tasks on the platform, users could obtain a limited edition digital snowflake with a unique number, allowing them to own a piece of artwork. This shift allows high-end artwork, once unattainable and displayed in prestigious museums, to be easily accessible as digital downloads on smartphones and computers, serving as desktop wallpapers or social media posts.
What exactly is an NFT artwork? In March 2021, artist Mike Winkelmann's artwork "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" was sold at Christie's auction house for $69.35 million, attracting widespread attention. Unlike traditional artists whose works are often displayed in galleries and museums, Winkelmann's work initially went unnoticed. His artwork was more of an ongoing experiment rather than a traditional canvas painting. He uploaded a new digital illustration to his website every day starting in 2007. In an interview with The New York Times, Winkelmann mentioned that his website only received visits from friends and family. He named each of his daily illustrations "Everydays," and eventually combined them all into the final artwork "Everydays: The First 5000 Days."
