Vitalik acknowledged that there have been some minor and major changes, such as giving more consideration to gas costs. In a podcast interview on July 2nd, he said, "We didn't really set things up properly in the beginning."
One of the major changes that Vitalik discussed involved sharding and proof of stake. After mentioning gas prices and other minor adjustments he made from the start, he reflected on some of the bigger changes in Ethereum.
"We did really underestimate the amount of time it would take to do a lot of the things that we hadn't even started in 2015, such as proof of stake and sharding," Vitalik said. He added, "If we knew it would take us years, we might have designed a different roadmap and considered different teams working in different ways, making many decisions in a much different way than we do now. So, I think there's definitely a lot of regret and wasted time in that respect."
In this lengthy interview that covered multiple topics and concepts, the blockchain expert also expressed regret and wasted time in several other areas related to network technology.
The development of Ethereum 2.0 has been underway for some time. Originally expected in January 2020, Ethereum 2.0 has faced several delays. An article published on the Ethereum blog on June 23rd indicated that the team is still working towards its development.
Earlier this week, Vitalik also discussed the gradual scaling of Ethereum's transaction processing capacity.
