Polygon’s zkEVM mainnet experienced technical downtime due to a layer-1 reorg in its blockchain sequencer.
Polygon’s zkEVM mainnet suffered a technical outage due to issues with its blockchain sequencer, leading to a layer 1 reorganization.
The team announced the news at X and asserted that work is already underway to resolve the issue. At the same time, users have also been told to expect the release of the second generation of Polygon’s zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) mainnet in the coming weeks.
Technical glitches plague Polygon zkEVM mainnet
On March 23, Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution Polygon announced that its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) had failed due to problems with its blockchain sequencer. According to a tweet on X, this technical glitch affected Polygon zkEVM, which is the only rollup.
However, some components of the Polygon ecosystem, such as the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network and chains deployed via the Polygon Chain Deployment Kit (CDK), have not been affected. The affected blockchain sequencer is responsible for collating and grouping transactions into batches, which are then sent to the zkEVM smart contract on the Ethereum mainnet.
The unplanned outage disrupted its regular operations and raised concerns among the broader crypto community. Users who relied on the stability of the platform are now worried about what these technical issues will mean for their reputation and the stability of the entire ecosystem.
However, Polygon assured followers on its social media that it was working hard to resolve the issue and promised to release a comprehensive "postmortem" statement. Despite the technical glitch, the blockchain company reminded people that its second generation zkEVM will be launched in the coming weeks. #Polygon #zkEVM
